Goodbye, My Love
You are my summer’s slow embrace;
You are my shadow in the snow.
Yet our bound hearts will soon unlace,
For autumn’s touch prompts me to go.
Where through my lone soul did once rove
Without this blinding, zealous light
I find in darkness now a dove
With snow-white wings unwound in flight.
And though I fear the final graze
Of searching lips upon soft skin,
Our love’s in mem’ries lovesome haze
And flow’ring joy where pain has been.
Though time in autumn’s hand will fade,
The truth of past love shan’t degrade.
