To Find Yourself
I looked into a mirror once
and found to my dismay,
the person I was looking at
was different yesterday.
Where did her funny glasses go,
the ones without a frame?
I swear her hair was frizzy then,
it wouldn't be so tame.
The clothes that she is wearing
are not the ones I bought.
She never was at all demure
though it wasn't trouble she sought.
This strange new person that I saw,
her humanity on a shelf,
had an effort to know just who she was.
Instead she lost herself.
