Macbook Pro 2016 vs Surface Book: A Battle of Laptops
On October 6th, 2015, Microsoft shocked us with the unveiling of several new devices, piloting windows 10, and 6th generation tech. Many fans of Microsoft have heard of many of the new devices through leakage before the conference began, such as the Surface Pro 4. But, on October 6th, Microsoft proved it knows how to keep a secret. Microsoft unveiled the Surface book, a laptop-tablet two in one, that is the opposite of the popular Surface line. While the Surface line is "more tablet than laptop", the Microsoft Surface made a 2 in one far more like a laptop than a tablet. In the design, they took a cue from Apple, and the Surface book is cased in magnesium. The Surface book also has a unique hinge, allowing you to disconnect the screen, and also has a solid keyboard.
Microsoft also announced that the Surface book can hold its own against, in both software and hardware, the Macbook Pro. the Surface book comes with the Surface pen, and a 30 day trial for Office. Meanwhile, the mbp comes with an optional (but expensive) Apple Pencil, and free OS X El Capitan. In added hardware, I think the Surface book wins. As for the screen, the Surface book showcases a touch screen and a beautiful 3000 by 2000 display. As for the mbp, it has a nice screen with Retina display with a clear 2560 by 1600 resolution, but no touchscreen. The Surface book wins this round as well.
Surface book and the Macbook Pro’s looks are very similar, The Surface book is encased in a magnesium shell, while the mbp is encased in Apple’s signature modern aluminum. The revolutionary hinge of the Surface book is made of aluminum as well. The Surface book’s design has a 1 up on Apple’s because of the flat out never been done before hinges. However, apple’s trackpad is unbeatable, easily taking the Surface book’s trackpad and making it look like scrap. It was impossible choosing which powerhouse holds the best exterior hardware, so I put Apple ahead, because of its amazing trackpad. Interior hardware is impossible to decide on, but the Surface book’s optional discrete GPU processor has the 1-up on Apple. The bad part is if you want the fully loaded Surface book, that will be 2700$. Since the interior hardware is either unknown or neck and neck between the two devices, it would be best to put Apple ahead because of the price tag differences.
This will be the last round of the Macbook Pro vs Surface Book review. The operating systems between these two devices can be a heated debate just by themselves. Right now, the Surface book and mcp are neck-and-neck, 2-2. Windows 10 vs OS X El Capitan is a matter of not just operating system details, but opinion. Windows 10 offers a full remake to Windows 8, and a new browser replacing the flawed internet explorer. Microsoft Edge. El Capitan offers a remake of safari, and a freshly optimized version of the original, Ultra-Modern, classic mac os look. It is clean and more customizable than before, while remaining simple enough that newbies can manage and master easily. Windows 10 offers an ultra customizable, and sleek new OS. Windows 10, with Cortana, is perfect for beginners. Windows 10 also offers a better “spotlight search” than mac os. Suppose you want to enter settings, and you are too lazy to get off your home screen. Type “Settings” on your keyboard, and instantly, a suggestion saying “settings” will come up. That is the power of Windows 10. As for which OS is better, it is a tie, both are optimized for a different type of person.
