Wonder by RJ Palacio

Critique by Madahi Castaneda

The book wonder was a very interesting book to me. August Pullman a very extraordinary 10-year-old that was born different from others. Despite the way, Augusts looks he is just like any other ordinary 10-year-old. August had an appearance that made others stop and stare at him, but  August was already used to them. He has been through a lot and still manages to keep a smile on his face despite what people say or think about him. As August Pullman says “I wish every day could be Halloween. We could all wear masks all the time. Then we could walk around and get to know each other before we got to see what we looked like under the masks” (Palacio, Wonder 73) He says this stating that he's different from the inside, and others shouldn't judge so quickly.

The author describes the characters very well. The author uses good descriptions of the characters in the book. The author tells a background description of all the main characters. My personal favorite is the way that they described Mr. Tushman. In the book, he is described as “Tall and thin. Old but not too old. He seemed nice.” The author also used a strong plot structure in the book. RJ Palacio wrote the exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and the resolution. She used interesting and good text in the book.

I would recommend this book to those who feel like they're not ordinary like others, and to those who feel left out. I would recommend it to them so they would know that they are not the only ones going through some of the struggles that Auggie went through. As the nurse said to Auggie’s mom after the birth of august “Everyone born of God overcometh the world" (Palacio 7). This quote explains how everyone can be different in their own ways but will end up accomplishing something great in life if they are assiduous.
