Chain Reaction
Gang violence is a thing in this world and also in this book called, Chain Reaction. Love can be broken up over a gang, but in the end we all know that love is much more powerful than abuse, hate, and violence. Luis is a young, confident 17-year-old teenager, and he is under Chuy Soto’s orders, head of Latino Blood is to make a decision. Finally, Nikki, a girl which shares a special connection with Luis, but she doesn’t know what it means exactly, is for her to find out. Luis is challenged to choose between love or hate, what will he choose?
Something’s the author did well was create amazing, imagery, it was like I was there! The author, however, did not manage to provide much intell on the main characters family because he had different blood running rushing through his veins, compared to his so-called “brothers.” The overall plot of this book is amazing, it is like it was made for all teenagers, it was easy for me to follow and understand throughout the whole book. Characterization was so unique, and strong, the author wrote this book most likely for teenagers I say this because, they were teenagers in high school, and most teenagers go through some pretty crazy stuff, that most can agree on.
I would recommend this book to fellow teenagers my age because, this book provides everything a teenager can experience from happiness, depression, giving up, hope, love, hatred, and even violence. “Everything has changed in the blink of an eye” (Elkeles 247). The most immense difference between Nikki and Luis is, that Luis is pretty frugal, he doesn’t have a dad, he lives with his mom on the poor side of town, in contrast to Nikki which has both parents who are rich, yet she met Luis at a wedding where the discover that there is something different compared to the others.
Nikki’s best friend, Kendall, always supports her and her decisions.”Kendall thinks I’m a survivor, but right now I do not feel like one” (Elkeles 261). Nikki and Luis go through a break up where he feels hopeless after she finds out that he is apart of the Blood gang. In the book, Chain Reaction, love overpowers all, especially the one thing that was holding Luis back.
