the track star
In the book Ghost by Jason Reynolds, Castle Crenshaw is a boy in a poor city but gets involved in things he would never think he would. castle always thought he was a basketball player turns out he's a track star. he has lots of trauma with his abusive father. He never liked running because it always reminded him of his father. He wished he had a father but doesn't want his father. He became a track star just by showing up to track practice and wanting to show off he winded up being pretty good at it. He and his mother were not living off much money and castle could never ask his mom for money. He thought that would stress his mom out more so he couldn't have that. follow along in the book to hear all about why his mom is a single mom. With his mom being a single mom she was always working he had to find a way to still run track and not have his mom able to take him to practice. This is when he meets the coach. Coach was a very thoughtful man and cared a lot about castle, known as ghost. Coach saw so much potential in Ghosts; he came and got ghosts and took him home to all practices and meets. Ghost did some things he shouldn't have and Coach stepped in to be a father figure and show him those things were wrong, read Ghost to learn all about these things!
Coach Brody is a very caring and thoughtful person. He walked into Ghost life just at the right time. Ghost never really had a father figure and he needed that as he's getting older even though Coach isn't there all the time but he's still there to correct Ghosts even though he's just a coach. When he found out that Ghost was stealing shoes he made him own up to his mistakes and fix them but he still loves Ghosts and still sees something in him.
Lu was a very important person in ghost life even though ghosts hadn't realized it. Lu didn't think ghost was good because he saw a ghost as a threat but Lu pushed ghost to work harder. Lu and Ghost were the same type of runner as a Ghost so they were put up to each other so Ghosts were as a person to look at to get better at running. so this is why he's such an important person in Ghost’s life.
One of the most important quotes in ghost coach states, “ You can’t run away from who you are, but you can run towards who you want “ This is a lesson in life everyone can take into consideration. Don’t run away from what you're struggling with but work towards getting better and finding ways to work better in life to be a better person.
