A Step from Heaven by An Na
“A Step from Heaven” was written by An Na. This book is “winner of the 2002 Michael L. Printz Award.” This story is about a Korean girl who immigrated to U.S. I think this book is good for learn about immigrants life. This book was written about main character’s life and emotion properly.
A main character’s name is Young Ju. She is a Korean girl who immigrated to U.S. with her family. Other characters are Uhmma, Young Ju’s mother, and Apa, Young Ju’s father, and Joon Ho, Young Ju’s younger brother.
Young Ju’s family was a poor family in Korea. One day, her parents decided that immigration to U.S. They thought their life would be better in U.S, but they were still poor. Uhmma got many jobs and worked very hard. Apa became crazy. Joon Ho started skipping school. Young Ju’s life was very hard, but finally she could do brave action. So they could get better life.
I think this book is good for learn about immigrants life and also good for learn about imagery. There is much imagery for writing about Young Ju’s emotions. So we could understand easier. Imageries are very interesting too. Students should read this book at least once!
