Whirligig by Paul Fleischman
“Create four whirligigs from this picture of Lea and set them up in the four corners of the United States.” After being rejected by a popular girl at a party Brent decides to do the unthinkable. As Brent drives home he realizes that he ca take matters into his own hands. He lifts his hands of the wheel and prepares himself to hit the median in front of him. Little did he know that this wouldn't change his life but change it forever. Turns out that he ends up killing a young lady named Lea when his car flew back and hit her car. The judge gives him community service but tells the mom of Lea that she can ask Brent to do something for her and her family. But it isn't the normal mowing the lawn all summer of cleaning. She asks him to make for whirligigs that look like Lea and put them in the four corners of the United States. So that they can spread the joy that Lea would have spread if she was still alive. Brent agreed and went on a trip that the Brent and the reader wont soon forget.
