The Big Field by Mike Lupica
Hutch has always been the shortstop on his team and it is where his father once
played professionally, before injuries caused him to stop playing and resulted in
him watching games on the TV instead of playing in the games. And shortstop is
always where Hutch has played and been a star at. Until now, the new arrival of
star shortstop Darryl Williams, the top Florida shortstop prospect. This causes the
stud shortstop Hutch to move from his home position of shortstop to second base.
Second base just doesn’t feel right to Hutch and when he sees his father giving
fielding tips to Darryl he is betrayed because this is the father that can’t even go to
his own sons games and always has a lousy excuse for why he doesn’t go. With the
summer league championship on the line will Hutch and Darryl be good
teammates together and win the championship even with Hutch being betrayed by
his own father?
