Her inspiration to write came from by Judy Blume and JD Salinger. Evermore is a very detailed science fiction/paranormal book that is aimed towards young adults.
Sixteen-year-old Ever can hear people’s thoughts, see auras, and know a person’s life story just by a single touch to the skin. She discovered her powers just after a horrible car accident that took the lives of her family. She avoids people and is known as the freak at her new high school but it’s only to shield herself from the great amounts of energy she experiences every second of the day. But everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste. This part of the story seems pretty predictable. The author makes the audience think that Ever will fall in love immediately, but when Damen walks into the room, she doesn’t even look at him.
Damen is wealthy and gorgeous like any other boy you would find in a teen book. But he holds many secrets. He is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what Ever is thinking, and he is the only one who can silence the energy and noise going on in her head.
When Ever finally looks at Damen, she feels instant recognition, though she knows that she had never seen him before. Finally she talks to him but is entirely rude. This is very unusual for most teen books. Usually the girl will let the guy into her heart, they fall in love, and live happily ever after.
Eventually Ever starts seeing Damen more since they have classes together and they start to hang out. Ever finds herself deeply in love with him but she also notices that he is hiding something. Ever can’t read his mind, he’s like a shield to her thoughts. When Ever finally figures it out, she tells him to stay away from her. This wasn’t the end though.
Personally, this book was amazing. Noël’s use of words and elegant language kept me in the book. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. Eventually I found myself, face buried in this book, reading every chance I got.
Evermore is definitely worth reading. Noël’s writing skills and deep use of detail, makes a movie in your head. There’s not a moment in this book where you won’t understand. Teens from the age 14 to 18 should enjoy this spectacular book because the main setting is at a high school which is where most teens can relate to. It’d be easy for them to read this amazingly, well-written book.
