Life of Pi by Yann Martel
Just imagine being stranded on a lifeboat way out in the Pacific Ocean with a
wounded zebra, a hyena, an orangutan, and a 450-pound Bengal tiger. When Pi
Patel’s voyage to Canada goes amok, he is put to the test. Not only must Pi use his
knowledge of animal tending his zookeeper father taught him, but he must also keep
strong with his religious and philosophical wisdom.
Having grown up around animals daily in his father’s zoo, Pi was able to keep
a proper and safe distance from the more dangerous ones. This safe distance is
brought to an end once Pi’s father decides to move to Canada.
Throughout this journey, Pi realizes that to survive he must bond with his
feline acquaintance in order to make it out alive. Pi has the tiger for companionship
and Pi gives the 450-pound beast food. Pi knows that with his expert knowledge and
trust in god, he will survive this quest.
