Condoleezza Rice Being the Best
For my Book Review #5, I read Condoleezza Rice Being the Best. The author is Mary Dodson Wade and the genre is African American. The copyright date is 2003.
I would recommend this book for middle school students. It is a very inspiring story about a young girl who aspires to become something more than a major in music. Students could read this for fun or for an essay. It is a very informational book with great details. Students learn about women empowerment. This means that women can have a chance and we are not any less equal than men. Condoleezza show that anyone can succeed if you try your hardest. The book talks about Condoleezza’s young life to present day.
Since 1963, Condoleezza Rice has been, let’s just say, an over achiever. She took ballet lessons, learned to ice-skate, and studied French three times a week. Her favorite after school activity was playing the piano. Condoleezza became so skilled that she was allowed to take piano lessons at the all-white Birmingham Southern Conservatory of Music (13). In a few years Condoleezza attended St. Mary’s high school. But by midyear she lost interest and decided to finish out the year (15). When Condoleezza went to college, she wanted to be a concert pianist. But with great surprise she decided that she did not to be music major halfway through college. Condoleezza went to a presentation held by Josef Kerbel. She then decided that she wanted to study the Soviet Union (21). In 1991 Condoleezza decided she wanted to return home to a quieter life. She was the first young, African American women to become provost of the University (26). Later in life Condoleezza was awarded with high honor and won many awards. She helped to diminish world problems. Condoleezza now works in the white house as a secretary.
In the end, Condoleezza Rice accomplished many amazing things in her life. She is an inspiring women who now stands with great honor.
