Gone by Michael Grant
What would you do if one day, your parents and teachers disappeared? In the blink of an eye, everyone over a certain age just... poofs, like a magic trick gone wrong. That's exactly what happens in the book Gone, by Michael Grant. Sam and his best friend Quinn are sitting in school one day when the teacher and everyone else over the age of fourteen vanishes.
Everyone has problems: Sam has a reputation as a leader, but he doesn't want to step up. Quinn has a jealousy problem when he uncovers his friend's biggest secret. Sam's crush Astrid has to take care of her autistic brother Little Petey. Their new friend Edilio doesn't trust the new leader from their rival boarding school up the road, Coates Academy. Caine seems perfect, until he reveals a dangerous power and mysterious connection to Sam. And far away in the desert, a girl name Lana fights against newly evolved wild animals, including flying rattlesnakes and talking coyotes.
Despite their different situations, they all have one dilemma in common: they're trapped inside a giant barrier with no contact to the outside world.
What caused the barrier? Will the teens of San Perdido ever see their parents and siblings again? Can Sam defeat Caine's evil intentions before his fifteenth birthday comes? Find out in the thrilling first book in a six-part series.
