Breaking Night by Liz Murray
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference…” (Murray 320) In the book, Liz Murray has you explore her life from her struggles to her life as a Harvard graduate. You discover her life as a child running the streets by herself, with friends and her sister. She talks about the people that she had helped and loved and the people who helped her become who she is. It shows you that a person who struggled with parents who had drug addictions, suffered from HIV and AIDS, struggled from homelessness, and had to bounce from house to house in the middle of the night at friends houses to have a safe place to sleep, became an internationally famous author.
This book touched me on a lot of different levels. The parts that really amazed me was the fact that a little girl that is so young knows so much about the street life and about drugs that it scared her and she saw what she didn't want to become. It showed me that the people who care the most and are the most considerate of others can live a life of trouble.
I would recommend this book and give it 5 stars out of 5 because its a great book and I love the fact that someone with such a bad experience, is so full of life and is in good spirits. It makes you realize that sometimes your struggles aren't as bad as someone elses. It makes you realize that sometimes you have life better than others and makes you appreciate what you have.
