Columbine Review
Columbine, by Dave Cullen, is a book written to state the facts of the Columbine tragedy in 1999. The book took Dave 10 years to write, it was released 2009. Columbine starts out with Dave writing about the Prom assembly in 1998. I was instantly intrigued with the story, the way Dave described the assembly, and quoted Mr. DeAngelis speech made me proud to be a Columbine Rebel. The book was written very well. I felt I knew all the details of the Tragedy, and the victims after I finished reading. The detail that Dave used was disturbing at times, but interesting. The chapter, “Psychopath” was one of the most interesting passages I have read in my life. It was an eye opener and furthered my understanding of Eric Harris’s motive. Dave Cullen took the time and made the effort to get all the facts right, instead of all the absurd information that is available on the internet. I liked how Dave took liberties in telling me what Dylan and Eric were probably thinking at certain times during the tragedy and planning it. I enjoyed this book and was very interested while I read. I did not like the formatting of the book. Instead of going from beginning to end, the chapters jumped all around and nothing was consistent. I enjoy formatting like a story, but this is a non-fiction book, so a different type of formatting is commonly used. The formatting made it more interesting at times. If the previous chapter was not as fulfilling, the next will most likely be a page turner.  Columbine, By Dave Cullen was a slow read at times, but definitely a book to read to discover the truth about Columbine.
