The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon
This book changed my opinion on mystery novels and it kept me reading all night. I was amazed by how easy Haddon could make it to understand the main character.
The story is told from the point of view of an autistic fifteen year old boy named Christopher John Francis Boone who ,loves puzzles, is a math wiz, knows the capitals of all the countries in the world, every prime number up to seven thousand fifty seven and relates better to animals than humans. He shows this by disliking the human touch. He has his own unique and odd way of viewing the world around him. Also, he does not quite understand human emotions.
To start off the novel Christopher, the main character decides to investigate the mysterious killing of a neighbor's dog in the city of Swindon, England. He writes The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time as an account of his investigations. He eventually discovers the identity of the killer and that his mother, who died two years before the story began, is still alive. Christopher then completes a daring and frightening trip to London, England to find his mother in which he faces and overcomes many challenges.
I loved this book and I am looking forward to reading more of Mark Haddon's books. It was interesting to see how Christopher coped with his problems in this terrible and confusing world of ours. I recommend this book to middle school students and anyone who loves mystery novels.
This book kept me reading all night and every single chapter was like a mystery waiting to be solved. I was on the edge of my seat at every single page turn. Overall The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time was one of the best books I that have read all summer.
