A child called it by Dave Pelzer
"A Child Called It' is a book that break your heart, but make you want to read the next page. This book is amazing. If you like to cry then read this book. Dave Pelzer makes you wonder what can happen to someone in a a day. He had a hard life. Dave used that to show people how hood your life is, or how good it could be. Never give up on hope. There is always light at the end of a tunnel. This story was in Daly, California. This was published around 1973.
This book is about young David Pelzer's life. His mother abuses him, Dave no longer believes in hope. He has 3 brothers and they learn to treat him like their own slave. Dave's father is no an abuser but he does nothing to help Dave out of this situation. Dave's dad is his only thing keeping him going in life. In Dave's house he becomes "Boy." Than that leads to "It." They call him "It" because everything Dave does is wrong. Dave is not considered a child of the family anymore. He sleeps in the basement in an old army cot. He doen't get fed very often. He has o do all of his mothers chores.
In this book David is the main character/protgonist. His mother, Cathrine Roerva is the antagonist. She is an alcoholic. Dave's father, Stephen could not help. At first he tried doing everything he could. Stan, Russel, and Ron are David's brothers. They started treating him as something that is to clean the house and take care of all of mothers things, not their brother. The nurse, principal, and Officer Smith helped dave tremendously!
This book overall should change the way you look at kids that are troubled or mat look trashy. They could have a life like David. If a kid is coming to your school with bruises on them, everyday or repeatedly you should open your eyes and see if they have problems at home. You could help them, or even save their life. They could have mean parents. This book makes you remember these things when you start to judge someone. Dave Pelzer got his life lesson in my head, what about yours.
