I am Not Okay With This
I am not okay with this
Before watching this show I hadn't heard of it until I was watching TikTok and saw an edit of it on my for you page. It looked really good and I saw in the comments that it was on Netflix, so I ended up binge-watching it in one night. That took about two and a half hours. I loved it, and after finishing it I ended up watching more edits of it on TikTok. This short 7-episode TV show that is a Netflix original called I am not okay with this. I personally loved this show and I really enjoyed watching it, even though I was really frustrated by it. I am upset at the fact it was canceled along with many other fans, as the show was left on a very large cliffhanger. There are three main characters that really impacted the show.
Their names are Sydney, Stanley, and Dina. Sydney is best friends with Dina and she says she just happened to get lucky about the fact they moved around the same time. Stanley was introduced later in the show. Stanley happened to be outside right as Sydney was getting home from school and he basically asked to hang out sometime since they live so close. From the way I saw it Sydney thought he was weird because of some of the different actions he was doing at the time but felt kind of stuck in the situation so she said yes and they then eventually did become pretty close friends with her.
Just from that scene of Stanley you can already tell that he is a really funky eccentric guy. Some extra stuff to know about him is that he hates school, works at a bowling alley, could care less what other people think of him, and has a bad relationship with his father. Next I'm going to talk about Dina. Dina is pretty much an average highschool student, a fun friend, always smiling and as Sydney describes her she is “very cool and badass” Lastly, Sydney the main character in I am not okay with this. “I tried , I tried to be normal But I’m just not wired that way.”.Sydney may come off as a really aggressive angry type of person which yes that may be true, but she's also a fun person and can have some really happy moments especially when with Dina or her little brother Liam or as she calls him ‘goob’. Sydney often deals with things going on with humor.
I am not okay with this is well known for its black comedy as a coming of age TV-show. Sydney was having a not very good day and goob was mad at her but instead of being down she decided to basically block out all emotion and then she said “paint me yellow and call me f**king sunshine, goob!!” A really good example of why it is a coming of age show is because throughout the show she is really just figuring herself out romance and friendship wise along with learning to control her anger and stress.
As I stated earlier how fans are upset about the fact it was canceled I wanted to add on to that statement. So, the reason it was even canceled in the first place was because the first season was shot right before covid and then they planned on shooting the second season in February 2021 but with covid and everything else going on at the the time it just wouldn't work.here is word for word what they said "We've made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of I Am Not Okay With This," Many fans are upset and want an explanation on the last episode including me. Although from what I have found online I am not okay with this was based off of a comic book so that is always an option to get a better idea of the last episode.
I have talked about the characters of the show and their amazing friendship. I have also talked about the different reasons why I am not okay with this is a black comedy coming of age show. Along with how fans are upset about it being canceled and left on an unexplained cliffhanger. I highly recommend this show although it was left on a cliffhanger. I still enjoyed watching it even without an explained ending. I actually like it so much that I have seen it three times. I am thankful that I saw that edit on my for you page and ended up watching it. It is still one of my favorites to this day even after watching it three times. As Dina sums up the general feeling of the show “Pretty sure I set the women’s lib movement back a couple decades, but other than that, it went great.”
