Frog Fractions on PC
Frog Fractions
Flies, mosquitoes, dragonflies, all types of bugs flying around are trying to steal your apples. Well, good thing you're a frog; just extend your tongue and get rid of those pesky bugs and learn fractions while you're at it. This is the immediate concept of Frog Fractions, a free computer game made by Twinbeard Studios, a one man team. The short but extraordinary 2012 game focuses on adventures of a frog protecting his fruit from the relenting bugs from planet Bug Mars. It contains an amazing, funny story, a great soundtrack that carries the story well, and hilarious extras that can be found throughout the game, definitely worth Giant Bomb’s URL of the year award.
Although the game may begin with a simple goal, soon the player finds that it has more to offer than meets the eye. After every wave of bug attacks, a store appears where upgrades can be purchased with the saved fruit. Once enough upgrades are bought the frog is able to launch himself, with the help of a friend, into space towards Bug Mars. Progress through the game grants access to various different game types such as vertical scroller, text adventure, Dance Dance Revolution, and underwater exploration. The variety keeps the player on their feet so they are not bored and just flicking their tongue at flies all day.
Throughout the game a great soundtrack provides an ambiance that correlates directly with the environment. In the beginning of the game an upbeat melody plays that gives the feel of being a regular frog. In the underwater exploration chapter a nice mellow tune and a beautifully narrated story about the history of boxing is audible whilst going through some caves. The sound gives the feel of the chapter of the frog’s life and is also just good music to listen to.
In the underwater adventure the player may encounter a couple of mermen watching television. This is just one of the many extra things the game has to offer. Laughs may be had at the conversation held in the store between two items and their differentiating opinions. Simple commands in the text adventure that would probably not work, do and give a funny response as well. These secrets give a nice chuckle in a game full of surprises.
Frog Fractions is a game that is absolutely recommended. It is slightly annoying that only one item can be upgraded at a time, but the other great factors in the game make up for one annoyance. It certainly has replay value as one could try to find all the secrets might have been missed. The game was quite an adventure and seeing the credits was a sad event.
