Breakwater Expeditions
Breakwater Expeditions invites you to embark on an extraordinary summer filled with adventure, growth, and unforgettable experiences! With three unique teen trips to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect journey to ignite your spirit of exploration and self-discovery.
River and Rocks, June 27 - July 6
Embark on a 10-day expedition that begins and ends in Salt Lake City, Utah. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking desert landscape as you paddle through the scenic Labyrinth Canyon on the Green River. Experience the thrill of canyoneering in Moab as you scramble through slots in the rocks and rappel down majestic cliffs. From navigating pristine waters to exploring desert formations up close, every moment is an adventure waiting to be discovered.
Boots and Paddle, July 8 - 21
Begin your 14-day adventure in Bozeman, Montana, and end in Missoula, Montana. Explore the untamed beauty of Yellowstone National Park through five days of backpacking off the beaten path. Encounter wildflowers, bison, and the haunting howls of coyotes at night. Transition to paddling along the Upper White Cliffs of the Missouri River, soaking in the beauty of the landscape and enjoying adrenaline-pumping white water rafting in Montana. Create memories that will last a lifetime as you celebrate the journey's end.
Ocean Odyssey, July 23 -29
Embark on a 7-day sea-kayaking adventure starting and ending in Seattle, Washington. Explore the enchanting San Juan Islands, paddling through crystal-clear ocean waters, and discover hidden coves. Encounter diverse marine life as you navigate this pristine archipelago, forging connections with nature and fellow adventurers alike. Immerse yourself in lushly forested islands as we camp onshore and witness breathtaking sunsets before gathering around the campfire for evening fun.
Each expedition promises a journey of self-discovery, resilience, and unforgettable memories. Our programming offers flexibility, creativity, and support tailored to the group's needs. At Breakwater Expeditions, we value camaraderie, play, and inquisitiveness while exploring the unknown. Get ready to feel more confident, more aware, and more eager for outdoor adventures.
We offer these unique experiences as individual trips as well as linked together to provide a longer trip. Discounts apply for booking more than one of these trips. If you choose to do more than one, you will transition with the guide to the next destination at no extra charge.
Additional Information:
All of our trips are all-inclusive, except for travel costs to and from the start/end of each trip. Note: if you are going on 2 or more Teen Trips, our guides will transport you to the next adventure.
We provide 2 qualified, medically trained guides to facilitate all of these experiences. Our guides have backgrounds in outdoor recreation, social work, wilderness therapy, coaching, guiding, and working with young people in a variety of settings.
Meals and snacks are provided throughout the trip and yes, we can accommodate special dietary needs.
Gear is provided for all activities and camping. We provide a packing list so you come prepared with appropriate clothing and personal items.
These trips are co-ed and for ages 13 - 17 (18 if still in high school).
We travel in a 15-passenger van throughout our trip and are frequently pulling a trailer with gear and boats.
The group will be camping the majority of the trip and we sleep in high-quality tents. Students share tents throughout the trip.
Testimonials:
"My son had an amazing experience and it seems to be exactly what he needed to remove himself from his situation and reflect on what is important. He couldn't wait to go through each day and tell us all about it! He did say that he was glad he didn't have his phone at the beginning, because he was hating it the first two days and would've complained to me, big time! He also said he would definitely consider doing another trip!" ~ Kelly M, parent
"What an experience – I know it was hard (especially in the beginning) but these girls have a new bond that is awesome to see. They learned a ton and saw some things that many people never will." ~ Lisa H, parent
"Dear Breakwater Guide: I hope you know and are reminded often that you are changing the world. You showed me how to be fearless, adventurous, kind, and strong. All things I was at one point in my life, but lost along the way. You reminded me what it was like to love life and take advantage of being present. I will never forget the morning we climbed up some rocks and when I got to the top I started to freak out. You calmly took me by the shoulders, looked me in the eyes and told me ‘You got this,' 'get it together,’ ‘breathe!’ And I DID!!! The whole week on the river -from canoeing, camping, star-gazing, watching you create delicious meals from 3 ingredients, watching you whip up ‘cowboy coffee’ and teach us about paddling and steering - JUST AMAZING! Thank you, A." ~ Green River Participant
"My daughter had SO much fun! Obviously, you turned things around for her and now she’s only describing really good times. Thank you so much for such an excellent experience. (I’m jealous, by the way, and may watch for your women’s trips!) She feels confident and strong and happy. The pictures look incredible. Thanks too for the updates. This was a fantastic experience for my daughter, and she needed exactly that at this moment in her life." ~ Fay, parent
"My daughter had an incredible trip, made new friends and I am sure will remember this the rest of her life. Thank you for taking good care of her, the experience and all that you and the team taught her about life, nature, people and so much more." ~ Mitch, parent
"AMAZING experience for our 15 year old daughter. She came out of 10 months of therapeutic boarding school and Angie and team went over and above to work with her during the trip. She is not an outdoors person but the team encouraged and helped her through it and now she looks back and is so grateful for the trip." ~ Stephanie C, parent
"Breakwater Expeditions was such an amazing experience not just the group dynamics but how much I gained from the trip as a whole. I didn’t realize how much I needed this experience and how much it helped me transition into college life! I was reminded of why I love nature. I also rediscovered pure happiness and figuring out what I define as ‘home’ after this past year defining it as being a final destination/goal. I have so much appreciation for Breakwater and will never forget all the memories I made this summer." ~ Kati, participant
