BYU Young Authors Academy
Come spend the week with locally and nationally accredited authors, receive instruction and work directly with University English department faculty, and meet other young, aspiring writers such as yourself. During the week you will have the opportunity to speak with and get your books signed by visiting authors and illustrators, stay in campus housing, and sign up to take two unique writing electives tailored toward your writing interests. Provided electives are as follows:
- How To Kill Off Your Main Character: Learn how to make your stories interesting by discovering creative ways to have characters leave the stage. Join us for a fun and imaginative journey where we'll explore different ways to say goodbye to our main characters in the most unforgettable and surprising ways!
- A World of Pure Imagination: Do you imagine knights and dragons, spaceships and far-off planets, the apocalypse, ghosts, or strange islands with magical properties? Get ready to invent a completely new world populated with creatures from your imagination! You’ll learn from science fiction and fantasy authors who’ve been successful in creating their own unique universes through writing.
- Prose, Poetry, and the Senses: Dive into the playful world of poetry! This class is all about having fun with words, rhythms, and feelings. Join us to create awesome poems that dance off the page and learn how to make words feel like magic. Get ready for an adventure where your imagination takes the lead, and every word becomes a brushstroke in the masterpiece of your very own poem!
- Wizardly Magic: Board the train to learn analytical writing skills and have some magical fun! Learn to create different potions and write your very own spells. Develop your creativity, logic skills, critical thinking, and self-expression. Here, you’ll learn to unleash your powers.
- Timeless Tales: Discover the magic of "Timeless Tales," where ancient history and mythology become the fuel for your modern narratives. Learn to seamlessly weave the past into your stories, creating captivating and enduring tales that resonate across generations.
- Life Unplugged: Embark on a thrilling journey with the exploration of real-life adventures that are absolutely worth telling!
