As the next day dragged itself to a start and she found herself in her seat in the corner, in the history class once more, she dropped her hoodie off her shoulders. The movement was so quick and small that no one noticed it, except one person. Kyle.
He had the sudden urge to rush over to her table, grab her hoodie and wipe her face. He didn't quite understand where the impulse originated from but he was disgusted that someone had to hide under such a thick layer of materialism just to fit into society. As soon as the bell rang signifying the start of the period and Ms. Bells entered, Kyle almost ran over to her desk, startling her into accepting his existence.
Finally at his destination he found himself staring into the confused face of Jackie. He smiled but still she remained confused.
"What?" he finally asked, wriggling uncomfortably in his seat.
"I just... I just didn't think you'd, you know, come back. I thought you would go with your friends and work with them rather than me."
"Why would I? I mean i can't leave you now that i have discovered your secret crush on our lamp posts. It would be just wrong, i have to support you through this no matter what."
For a minute she was confused then her face broke into a glorious wrinkled smile abruptly turning to a hushed laugh.
She leaned toward him with a secret smile and in a hushed whisper asked, "How did you find out?"
"Oh you know I read minds."
She gasped, "And you never told me? I'm offended."
With the secret of a grin he replied, "I thought you knew."
"Oh no I'm sorry I think you have me confused. I'm not the mind reading lady I'm the weird lady who falls in love with lamp posts."
Kyle hooted with laughter only to receive a sharp glance from ms. Bells and a 'hush now Kyle this is history not the pub.'
He placed his hand over his heart and with a silent smile he said, "My sincere apologies madam."
This time Jackie laughed out loud, receiving an equally awful glance from ms. Bells but no words. Kyle opened his mouth to say something probably funnier but with the biggest grin Jackie had dared since the incident she shoved him slightly and told him to get to work.
