Back then, we talked every day. The three of us conversed from home--thumb speed the only thing restraining us. But time is cruel. As the days until the end of the semester got fewer and fewer, so did your texts. And one day, they stopped coming completely; one morning, there was no you in the meeting members list—only the two of us. So we pinged, “where r u? r u ok?”
You didn’t respond. We felt abandoned until the school called to say two words: “He died”. Then we realized the one who felt abandoned was you.
