Sweltering Illusion
Fake smiles get caught in sweat around my neck
Nervous droplets ruining the string of promises
I wear as a tight choker on this sweltering day
Uncertain words stick to my sun-tanned skin
A love maybe true or confusion brought about
By the breath-taking, logic-defying heat around us
I swear it all made sense in the very beginning
But my judgement keeps melting away like the ice
You so casually plop into your alcoholic relief
And me? My moments of deliverance from this
Stagnant illusion of perfection come in the form
Of walks alone in humid drizzles, being washed clean
For a clear mind that lets me see how dizzy you must
Be to do the things you do, and how lost I was when
I entrusted your shaking hands with my fragile being
The summer has come and turned our world into
A furnace to smelt our soft hearts together as one
But we are two metals never meant to be mixed
And as fluidly impressionable as we may be now,
We will never harden into anything functional.
