Omission
You smile at me to replace words you’ll never say:
I miss you,
Come back,
I’m sorry.
Or worse yet; words you’ll never mean:
I love you...
And you act as though this replacement
Makes our balancing act more sturdy.
We’ll I’ve got news for you:
This rope is wobbly and I am clumsy
So when the time comes to perform cartwheels
And I trip and fall on gravel that
Was supposed to be grass
I won’t blame myself.
Because somewhere between all
The things you never said or
Where too much for you
To do and feel
I let go.
