Tick
Tick
Tick
The clock is ticking

Step
Step
Step
Forward without thinking

We hold
Stay
Support
But only inner

Never showing outside the bubble
Pain rages behind the walls
The stew of trouble
Muted calls

A single bullet
A bottle of pills
A shining blade
A wishful thrill

All through out these stormy nights
A button pressed
A cigarette light

Unnoticed by us who forget the trouble
The constant pain
The torment doubles

The people walk through crowded streets
Not a soul to say
They saw the least

Our church sits on the corner
A steeple rises above our order

Our hypocritical call for truth
For fair
And right
And just
And group

Lying beneath the tower’s shadow
Disregard beneath the mallows

Praying hands
Meaningless symbol

Those who cry
We have forgotten

A shot is fired
A handful swallowed
A wrist is cut
No time is borrowed

Tick
Tick
Tick
The clock is ticking

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired by the self-inflicted desperation of our society. Thousands of people die meaningless deaths every day as a result of neglect by those around them. How much eaiser it is to just ignore the pain of others! But the cost is to great. The safety of our ignorance isn't worth the price of another human life. The title is a referance to the Doomsday Clock, a symbol of our oncoming destruction if we continue to ignore the plights of others.
