"I'm tired" once again
She repeats the quiet words
Wondering how three syllables
Can speak of so much hurt
She's memorized an empty life
On and on it seems to go
The things that really scare her
Are the things that no one knows
For how can she explain?
Knowing they won't understand
Her love of the scar
That is on her left hand
And the way little bugs
Can give her panic attacks
And the way she cannot sleep
Without her door open a crack
And no one would understand
How much she wants to talk to you
But it's far too late at night
And wishing's all that she can do
She feels insomniac
For she cannot fall asleep
And sleeping doesn't help much
For she's too tired out to dream
And what's the point of dreaming
When you have to wake so soon
And it's hard to fall asleep
With all the monsters in the room.
Where she really wants to be
Is wrapped in your arms
For that's the only place she's safe
From the whirlwind that's her heart
But you're too old and she's too young
And you're so great and she's so small
And she wishes that in love
You didn't have so far to fall
Every night she'll wish for your hand
To hold, and drive away the fears
And you to show her, though there's night
There are still stars to light her tears
And on those stars she'll make her wishes
Those of a lonely, searching soul
And if her thoughts of you are stars
Then the galaxies are full
And when she wakens in the morning
With her tired, shining eyes
She'll keep waiting till her hearts wings
Heal enough to find the skies.
