When Things were Golden
The silver lining of my heart
Tied with perfect bows and ribbons
Cover up all the bruises and scars
That lie away perfectly hidden
I can't rethink the memories
Or the thoughts once in my head
Or remember all love's remedies
To all the sweet things he said
I can't rewrite or relive the moments
Of the dark and lovely past
Things have been done and words have been spoken
But no one said they'd last
Maybe it’s the way our eyes met
When we were staring off into space
Interlocked into mine, I'll never forget
The look upon his face
Maybe it was the sweet gestures and compliments
When I was able to do things I can’t
You gave me smiles, freedom, confidence
Whenever we held our hands
Maybe it’s the way you used to make me laugh
Or all those special connections
Maybe the charisma and quirks no one else had
Holding with arms of love and protection
Maybe it was the happiness you brought
Like hot cocoa from a freezing winter storm
Always made my cheeks blush red hot
Of the beautiful feelings inside me warm
Maybe it was that I thought somebody cared
From infinity and beyond
Love didn’t exist when you weren't there
But why am I still holding on?
Maybe I don't know exactly what I had fallen for
But we had the right equipment
Together we could have been so much more
If we had the time and commitment
Things would have been different, if we held on longer
I could have been yours and you could've been mine
But these experiences have made me a whole lot stronger
If only we had the time
The frost has come so the garden needs tending
After all that has been shattered and broken
With the gaps and stitches, my heart needs mending
From a time when things were golden
