Prisoners march solemnly
Down chalk-traced aisles
Would they but listen they'd hear
The jingling of metal keys
Along chalk-traced aisles
Guard dogs bark madly, mindless
Of the jingling of metal keys
Around an unsuspecting wrist
Guard dogs bark madly, mindlessly
Threatening to use their teeth as shackles
Around an unsuspecting wrist
To keep the prisoners in line
Threats to use their teeth as shackles
Are just unneeded precautions
To keep the prisoners in line –
They're already dead inside
All just unneeded precautions
Would you but listen you'd hear
Them, already dead inside,
Prisoners marching solemnly
