Burned
Loving you is like forgetting that fire is hot.
At a distance is nice.
It keeps you warm
Scares off the monsters.
Creates light where it once was dark.
A few steps closer and it starts to burn,
But it’s just so pretty to admire.
A few steps further and you’re touching it.
Now engulfed by the flames.
The ones that kept the monsters away,
Now create new ones.
Shadows that follow you.
I got too close and now I have scars.
From the burns that your embers left.
The warning was there,
But I did not want to listen.
Your warmth was nice,
But it hurts to think.
To remember.
Because now it makes my scars ache.
Because every time I tried to get close
I got burned.
So now I have a reminder,
Many of them.
They cover my body.
Reminding me.
To pay attention to the warnings that are given.
Before you get burned.
I hope that no one relates to this poem, but if they do, just know that you aren't alone in this feeling. Love is a complicated feeling and I think that a lot of people get obsession confused with love and it's so hard for people to let go of someone because that person made them feel something after feeling nothing for so long.
