i, the ghost
i sat,
surrounded by ghosts,
in a fast-food restaurant booth with
cake and candle in hand.
the flame smirked
in my face,
shimmering and sly.
i saw happy birthday slink out the
door, with my keys
and a briefcase of memories.
i sat,
in a gold-painted room
on a suede loveseat.
i wore a crown of thorns and
melted wax,
stitched with silken
silence.
i sat,
on a buttercream cake,
with my glass skin the same shade
as the frosting beneath me.
i, a ghost,
watched as she wrapped
her mother's scarf around her burdened neck.
