To Build The World Anew
To build the world anew
exceeding the heights of ambition
soaring where the wings of freedom never flew.
We hold these truths to be self evident
that all men are created equal,
but how is equality defined when it comes down to you and I?
white and black, rich and poor, the king and the moor.
To build the world anew
recovering the clipped wings of equality and justice,
gazing upon the skies where freedom never flew.
Justice is blind to all but color
this civil enshrinement that places one versus another.
One nation under god
a so-called unfinished symphony
but when will we realize that we have been playing in the wrong key?

The inspiration for this poem was the book To Begin The World Anew by Bernard Bailyn, which reveres our founding fathers based on what they have done for our country. This poem is an open criticism of our American justice system and the ways in which it continues failed non-white Americans.
