Only the nighttime understands
I keep my feelings to myself
My emotions tucked into neat little jars
I must not feel
But I go for walks at midnight
And the stars like demigods
Know my tears
Like they are their own
The houses have eyes
They see my darkest secrets
They know the way my soul is fractured
And their gaze holds me like a mother
They want to make me whole
The street lamps radiate warmth
And I am drawn to their light
They understand the love that keeps me going
The woods look like a hug
I want to run
Through the trees
Spin in circles in that field of flowers
So the moon
With its welcoming glow
May witness the first true joy I have felt
Since long ago
