The Shepherd
Once upon a midnight dreary, I was left to walk alone.
Man and beast could not hear me, so very far had I to roam.
The clouds were filled with stark black rain, which matched the tears that stained my face.
The tide rolled in the coast of Maine, which fills the void of time and space.
Rolled in with him did Hope and Fear, a ruby dress with onyx thread.
I lost my way and Hell was drawing near, the bitter chill matched my gray stone bed.
I stepped upon a rose and made her bleed, now I see her pain, for it matches mine.
This wall goes farther than the eye can see, and wraps around my heart--endless as time.
The wall is so tall, so high, so vast, it touches the Heavens and makes them weep.
I hear of a river that can swallow my past, its waters so pure, so clear, so deep.
