he peeked
he saw
her scarred back, her swollen arms
he peeked
he saw
her welts so painful, her wounds so deep
but he said nothing
she walked on
scathed and sore
and he said nothing
and she returned home fragile
and he said nothing
even though he peeked
and even though he saw
her deepest darkest secret
he said nothing
and he told no one
and it cost her, her life.
