Innocence of a Summer Storm
Dark storm clouds gather overhead
they appear threatening
but you know the truth,
the innocence
The first drops splatter on the ground
creating a polka dot pattern
you watch from your window
as the rain picks up
making puddles on the cement
and rivers in the gutters
acting on impulse you open the front door
and step onto the porch
without hesitation
The first drops greet you
like a friend with open arms
you sigh with relief and happiness
the wait is over
Your steps are careful
and the street is smooth beneath them
You sit down, and then lay back
the asphalt is soothing under your weight
the rain covers you like a new skin
rinsing away your grief, stress, and guilt
leaving you clean and pure
shining with radiant innocence
