I Am From
I am from
Back dirt roads and cattle lots.
My horse’s backs, round bale dares and county fairs.
Weekly chicken wings, Sunday branding irons and morning chore bottle calves.
I am from
A family playing cards and our front porch nights.
Hay loft forts, those starry night time skies and get out of trouble lies.
Yearly long car rides, a Yank of a father and Reb for a mother.
I am from
Sweet fudge and grandmother hugs.
Big willow trees, plain white fences and Ford truck beds.
A vet box to “Fetch me this,” “Watch me now” and “Here is the way how.”
I am from
An old farm house and our big willow tree.
A long hard fall leaves a mark.
Like family.
