Stand Up
The sun drapes over the mountains
Peaking from behind the horizon.
It’s afraid of the world
And all that comes with it.
It’s the dusk.
The part of the cycle that happens every day
The same routine.
Why be afraid,
When you have so many times
To practice your strength?
Birds fly in groups.
Are they, too, afraid to venture out into the world, alone?
Solitude is not your foe, but in fact your companion.
The only person you can trust,
Is you.
Trees whisper in the breeze,
As the evening atmosphere settles in.
Everything appears comfortable and at ease,
Because they seem to be used to it,
But if you took the time to look beneath the subtext
Things are not that simple.
Everything can have a soul
Not just people.
Inanimate objects are nicer to you,
Than maybe your own friend.
So why just look,
When you can go out and experience?
When you can live?
The day comes to an end,
Closing another chance you were given
To go out and reflect, to live.
The nighttime comes in,
Then what?
You are not scared of daily routines,
You’re afraid of what will happen if you venture out.
Clouds sink in, thinning out in the center.
Like blankets protecting you.
But protection is not what is necessary.
You need strength.
Days pass and you sit on the sidelines.
Shadows are cast,
Weaving in and out of trees.
Part of the grass is bright,
But the trees are covering most of it,
Come out of the dark and just peak at the brightness.
It’s not worth just sitting there.
It’s not.
Another day comes to a close,
And once again, there’s nothing you can do.
Afternoon rolls to evening.
Evening rolls to darkness.
That you cannot change.
But what you can change is what happens
In one blink, everything is calm.
No birds, no waltzing branches.
The chance you once had is taken away from you,
Faster than you realized you even had it.
Opportunity is stolen,
Or you just weren’t careful,
And left it for the world to take.
What you think is your life,
Isn’t really the real thing.
You decide what you want,
And stand up.
