a withholding

ripples yielding to the wind,
uncatchable and ever running
a fluid beauty of colors
the great hewn hands of man
cupping a second sky,
captive life itself and a world of resemblances
dammed, barricaded by stony design
fathomless unknowns have collected here,
pressing at the very brims--
but not truly captured,
for with intention of escape,
ripples
tumble in
glimmers down the spillway.
