The Retired Cloud Watcher
Tracy strutted down the New York sidewalk
shoulders back
chest forward
red high heels announcing her arrival.
Budgets and deadlines wrestled in her mind.
Tracy,
a retired cloud watcher,
no longer has time to
lie around and watch them
chase each other across the sky,
Tracy,
who once spent hours
finding bunnies, dragons,
and a man holding a turtle in the sky.
Now, only looks for the clerical error.
Tracy,
the forgotten comedian
no longer pops a joke
when needed to keep the
laughs and smiles coming.
Now, sits in a board room silently creating jokes no one will hear. She wouldn’t want to tarnish her rep.
Tracy,
still the lover of TV,
except instead of sharing the laughs
on the boob tube
Now sits alone in the isolation enjoying them and that’s all.
