Well Maybe Perhaps
Upbeat and perpetually grinning
Red dominating our faces and iron maiden our ears
Hands meshing together clumsily
And in what appears to be minutes lost to me
My hands dangle hesitantly by my side
And I permit your hands and lips
To dance were they wish
Leaving me scarred with your mark
Your innocence-taker
And even then I thought
Well, maybe
Perhaps
And even after I smelled the smoke
Asphyxiating the fabric of your burgundy jacket
And the color of your eyes
Even after I stopped feeling
Even after those numbing minutes
Of allowance
Even after you blatantly stated
With such a smile that left my chin dripping
For the first time since July
Even after, I still thought
Well
Maybe
Perhaps
