Baby Powder
I'm Blowing kisses
To the blush on your cheeks
As I lie here
On your porcelain chest
Without that upbeat heartbeat
That could have powered a rocket ship
Your engine is dead
My sweet
And yet I'd get so much pleasure
Out of simply filling your nostrils
With my luminous perfume
I'm looking at your eyelids
Pink and delicate
Like the feathers of a flamingo
And I'm sending you my blessings
As streams of pollen
Spill out of my gut
And cookie cutter leaves droop
Longing for the touch of your skin
I see waterfalls
Escape the eyes of those
Who once held you
With so much love and passion
Tightly to their chests
They say
They could count
The number of breaths you took
Until you were gone
Just like that
You saw the light for only seconds
Until those shades were pulled
And you plunged
Out of your existence
Darling
You were 21 inches 9 pounds
And though you didn't make it
You fought for it
And they say you slipped away
With a subtle smile
Across your pink lips
