The Storm Cycle
Music plays in my ear,
But it is irrelevant.
The only thing I can hear
Is the beating of my heart.
I think I know whats heartbreak is like.
First there is subtle aches,
Then they become
More painful and persistent;
Until every step you take
Seems too heavy
And everything else is meaningless,
Except the aching hollow in your heart.
This isn't heartbreak,
It's much worse; I think.
It's always this way,
Nothing is 'good enough' for you.
But I still wonder,
Why I try so hard.
I try to gather my strength,
Like wind picking up before a storm.
Yet for me, there's never a storm,
Just some drizzle.
Tears fall,
And I try not to be selfish.
The storm passes,
But it'll come again.
