darkest night
darkness at
the edge of my sight
following me
here and there
i wonder at it
what is it
about the absence of light
that creates such fear?
but i am not afraid
the bats are my friends
fireflies lead me
wolves call me home
i wander in the gray twilight
the mix of day and night
welcoming the darkness
at the edge of my sight
for if there was no darkness
and there was only light
we’d never see the moon and stars
in the blackness of the sky
i love the day with all its color
but there’s something about the night
something about the shadowy shapes
and hooting calls of owls
and if I walk into the dark
and never see the light
was lost inside the blackness
never to be found
you’ll know that I became one with them
those warm open arms of night
here at last I’ve found my peace
beside my friends who cared
