In Defense of Aliens
the fruits have lost the sweetness
they don't need us anymore
my sister found a fossil
where there used to be a shore
i know my mother's dying
and about the genocides
of things i can't imagine
called whales and butterflies
you've been lying in the textbooks
the oceans once were salt
and my sister found a fossil
and the core used to be hot
and i know you're all afraid of
these things and all their lights
but i like them; they remind me
of those sparks on black-out nights
i know my mother's dying
she was warm down to the core
and now you start to ask
if we need children anymore
and now you start to ask
other things that make me sweat
and the oceans once were salty
and i don't want to forget
i found out
about the rocks that fell
from those sparks
from black-out nights
and my sister found a fossil; we were fertilized by light.
and you say you've always known
they would come with cries of war
or just keep us here until
they don't need us anymore
and i know that you're afraid
of these Things
and all their lights
but I like them; they remind me
of whales and butterflies.
And the fruits
have lost their sweetness,
and I want to taste the truth,
And I mean no disrespect, but
you won't take my daddy too.
