"Always kiss the one you love as if every kiss was your last."

I let my eyes roam
Over her slumbering form,
Hair black as ebony
Lips red as blood
Skin white as snow,
Such a fitting verse
These humans have,
Created solely to describe
The essence of perfection
Before me,
My wandering eyes
Rest on her lips,
Lips that would put
Any rose
To shame,
A forbidden urge
Rises in me
Once more,
To make our lips meet
In true loves kiss,
But I curse the thought,
For my kiss
Did not save her,
It merely pushed her
Into this
Dark
Slumbering
Abyss

The author's comments:
This piece was inspired by a dark, troubled character I'm having trouble capturing the essence of. However, instead of figuring out the next thing he would do in my story, his/my thoughts created this.

Interesting! I think you totally captured the essence of a character, and a really cool one.
