Just Friends
I met you when you
Asked me a simple question
It was the first day of high school
In algebra class
We started talking
Complaining about the strict teacher
Laughing and joking
Just like old friends
I knew that we would be
Really great friends
I never thought
I’d start to fall for you
It was December
Snowflakes were descending
I shivered and uttered I was cold
You quickly took your sweater off
We looked into each others eyes
Your eyes so warm and bright
I thought maybe this was my chance
My chance to tell you
But I was a coward
Before I realized
It was February
When you started to talk about her
It was always her smile
Her eyes
Her laugh
Her cry
I wanted so much for us to be more
Not just friends anymore
But you were clearly in love with her
I wanted you and didn’t say a word
It was too late
She loved you
You loved her back
We were only friends
