I Hear a Song of Freedom
I hear America singing, but diverse hymns ring in my ears,
The voices of the children in the street during the Fourth of July parade, waving flags high in the early summer wind,
The family singing on the beach as fireworks crackle and explode overhead, colored flames licking at the stars,
The daughter sings hers as she looks at a picture of her fighting father in uniform, crying tears of joy when his calls-far and few between-reach her house phone,
The teenagers sing as they wave bright sparklers, knowing that the explosions of a thousand bombs could never equal the force of their spirit,
The soldier’s song, the marine’s, and the aviator’s all harmonize in tune and pitch, ringing across the land of beautiful azure skies and fields of grain,
The lovely singing of the immigrants, who wave the Flag along with their own, who have made this country a diverse and splendorous chorus of hymns and songs,
Each singing for America, each singing of freedom, joy and opportunity,
The country which belongs to everyone-yet no one,
All sing out loudly and fearlessly; every kind of music, every voice imaginable-blend together to form one beautiful, endless note of freedom
