The Gentleman and the Forest Nymph
Your bare feet on the moist, green ground
With a circle of lilies your head was crowned
The melody of the birds was the only sound
You were clothed with the shadows, dark as night,
With a dress made of the morning’s pure light.
Dancing with the wind, by your beauty I was stricken,
I ran deeper in the forest as the trees began to thicken.
Laughing with the squirrels, you ran away from me,
Running behind bushes, skipping past the trees,
Giggling and prancing, just beyond my reach.
After hours of chasing, and following your song,
I came to the realization that something was wrong.
There was no sign of you, dearest,
And I was lost deep in the forest.
