I remain suspended somewhere deep, between the sea and the sky
Where your lovely smile holds me afloat as my mind sinks deeper into the silt
Your eyes peer at me through the leaves of the greening trees
You mouth giggles at the wonder from the petals of the flowers you’ll never see
I hear your whisper as I paint and your tears fall with my leaking sink
Every so often the chemicals in my brain feel your pain and I wonder if you’re happy
I can see the dull pain behind your eyes that was never seen before
Looking back it is the ancient fossil gone unnoticed
I hoped I could hold your breath long enough to wake in peace
The heavy, salted air settles when you realize you’re alone
The view from here is gorgeous as you
That tightly woven hammock suspended between the sea and the sky
Are you there? (z”l)
